We've all seen them - the "one step wonders" - the folks that hit record and then hit post
and voila their vlog is done. When you spend a few moments to consider the image words we talked about last time, it's time to take a que from Hollywood. Adding a couple more steps will give your vlogs a little more polish.
1. Pre Production
- Decide what you will talk about for approximately 1-3.5 minutes.
- Practice
2. Filming
- Get your "studio" and equipment setup
- Get yourself to "wardrobe" and "makeup" - Quiet on the Se
t Everyone - Film 3 takes. Try something a little different with each take, especially while you are learning about what "plays" on film and what doesn't. It's only 3ish minutes, you've got time to work with it. Yes, you could do it in one take, Ed Wood did. But I'm guessing that your image words are guiding you to more polished choices. Ok, that said, if you're doing more than 5 takes, it's time to let go of "perfection" or recognize that this is a practice session and not "for keeps".
3. Post Production
Review your takes and choose one. Also paying attention to what worked and didn't work and what you like or don't like. Don't be hard on yourself, this is your "home schooling".- Edit the clip
- Now post and promote!
Next time: Vlog Rx - Edit Me Please!
We'll take a look at a common vlog mistake, not editing, and tips how to improve it. Don't worry - you, your mom and your neighbor won't be in any of the "mistakes" clips.
