3 Ways You Sabotage Your Own Success

    January 24, 2012
  • I often write about ways to create success in your business but you can’t add in a bunch of pleasurable strategies without recognizing how you could potentially be sabotaging the good that you are creating.

We are the product of our thoughts and our thoughts can hinder our ability to do all that we are capable of. Unfortunately we are our own worst critics. We are fast to look for what did not work, what we could have done better or what we don’t like about ourselves. We think that focusing only on the good feels “not real”. The negative version feels more “real”. Even though it’s not. In fact if you get evidence you will find that your own opinion is different from others, probably overly negative (in comparison to others view of you) and most likely, just yours.

The challenge is that this has implications for your own success. Meaning your ability to be all that you can be. So I wanted to highlight three habits that you should be avoiding. They will kill your ability to be all that you can be and hence your level of happiness and ultimately the ability to get the most pleasure from your business.

Stress: Stress is a killer. It causes diseases, it increases your blood pressure, and it depletes O2 from your body and brain, its bad for you. It is in this O2 deficient state that all diseases originate. It is a habit and an addiction. We feel like its necessary to have in order to achieve but it’s a killer. It causes burn out, fatigue and ultimately you don’t make good decisions when you are stressed.  When you feel that you are stressed, ask yourself why? It could be because you are doing too much or you are putting unhealthy amounts of pressure on yourself. Stop. Really evaluate which is more important. Your health or your ability to get 100 things done in one day. The more you choose stress over your health, the less time you will have. Think about that.

Comparing: Comparing yourself, your body or your business to others is a dead end street. You will always be better or worse than other people. No two people are alike. We have different DNA, why then do we measure what is possible for ourselves to others? It’s a hollow path to feeling good. Stop comparing, figure out what you are best at and push yourself to be the best you can be. That is all you can be, is yourself.

Not believing in yourself: You can be your worst enemy or your biggest fan. Which would you prefer as a friend or a family member? I am sure you would choose the later. Why then would you treat yourself in ways that you would never treat others? Statistics show that the more you think you can do something, the more likely you will do it, so believe that you can. Believe that you are capable, smart and doing all that you can. How can you expect others to treat you with respect when you don’t do the same for yourself?

It’s impossible to get rid of these habits over night, (it can sometimes be a life long challenge) but being aware is the first step and can make a huge difference. You just have to remember that these success killers are something that you can control. You would be amazed at how much better life can be with just a moderate shift in one or all three of these habits. Think about it.

How would an average work day feel if you felt: stress free, completely excited about your own rate of success and constantly believing that you are being the best you can be for your business? Sounds pretty great. The more you feel this way every day the more likely you will turn around and realize you have achieved more than you could imagine. Try it out and let me know, I would love to hear the results.
