What Does Your Energy Say About Your Brand?

    November 3, 2010
  • In my last blog post, I shared the top 10 things you must do to become a Successful Social CEO. Over the next few weeks, I’d like to break down each of those 10 action steps into specific, concrete, actionable items for you.

Let’s start with your messaging. As someone who’s spent her entire adult life getting paid to communicate, whether as a branding strategist, content specialist, community liaison, best selling author, or as life and business coach, I often take for granted how easy it is for me to communicate my big ideas with the world.

Not to get all Oprah on you, but here’s what I know for sure. What you say is not half as important as how you say it.

That’s why as a Social CEO you must not only master your messaging, but harness the energy you project in your messaging.

Let me give you an example. Have you ever met someone who was being perfectly nice to you and yet you didn't like the way they made you feel?

    That's energy.

As a Social CEO, your success depends primarily on how you make people feel.

How do you want you and your brand to make people feel?

For example, if you are a weight loss/fitness expert, do you want to lead by inspiration and personal cheerleading, or is your style more of a tough love drill sergeant?

Or, if you own a high-end luxury product, do you want people to feel like your product is exclusive, pampering, or both?

As the Social CEO of Woohoo Inc., I want people to feel inspired, motivated, enthusiastic, and hopeful about the future of their business and personal life. If I communicated in a way that instilled fear, i.e. If you don't use my products and services, your business will fail, that would be the antithesis of my brand.

However, by sharing the positive results they'll get by working with me, i.e. quadrupling their income, getting a book deal, making money while on vacation, getting high-profile speaking gigs, booking TV spots, etc., I'm inviting them to have the Woohoo! way of life in THEIR business.

Do you see the difference? For me, the Woohoo! doesn't work if it's only available for ME.

Take 10 minutes and create a list of 10-20 words that describe how you want to make people feel when they meet you, interact with you, listen to you, ask questions of you, hire you, and work with you. Get as specific as possible. Have fun with this! And then ask yourself how you can incorporate these words into your messaging and energy frequency.

Stay tuned. I'll be sharing more action steps you can take to become a successful social CEO in the coming weeks.
