Reaction Based Massage - Developer, Instructor
Philadelphia, PA
I graduated from a Massage Therapy program at the Costa Rica School of Massage Therapy in December 2007. Upon my return to the states, I was working on moving to San Diego and taking the National Board Exam for Bodyworkers. I passed the National Exam in early March 2008 and the very next day, on a celebratory run, fell and broke both of my arms. The proximal head of the radius on both sides crushed into itself. A wonderful Doctor performed the surgery and put 2 screws in each radial head. After 5 months of bilateral arm casts, braces and tenacious Physical Therapy, I was considered fully recovered. I moved to Philadelphia instead of San Diego where I worked 5 months for a Wellness Center before starting my own business. It took on many names and designs before I settled into developing Reaction Based Massage. What sets RBM apart is our focus on communication. We have our clients fill out an intake form and discuss what their goals of massage are. A customized massage is given according to how the client's body is reacting to the work. We determine this by reading body language but also by communicating gently throughout the massage. Finally, we chart the client's stress points and their reactions on a body map which we use to increase our effectiveness for the next session and track their progression as we continue to work together.
