    My Support Story

    As I attempt to explain the powerful keys to business success I have discovered through my own business growth journey, I think it is important to share my personal experiences with these tools.  I get inspired to research and focus on things based on what happens in my life, so I thought I would share what is happening.

    I have always found it hard to ask for help. Since I was a teenager I have prided myself on being an independent woman who can take care of herself and knows how to get shit done. As a result I have always resisted against asking for help because I didn’t think it was an option.  And over time, because I didn’t ask for help, I simply became unaccustomed to not doing so.

    BrasA few weeks ago I wrote about the link between wearing a bra and getting support for your business growth. This week I am taking the analogy further by exploring the “right” kind of support that works for you. We all know that there are endless types of bras. We also know that most of us buy ones that don’t fit us properly. In order to get the most benefit from a bra you have to get one that fits you. Same with business support, you have to figure out what is right for you. As with bras you have to figure out your unique needs and match that need with the right kind of support.     Ladies, would you ever leave the house braless? I assume not, unless you are feeling especially adventurous or are one of the few women that just don’t need one. My reason for asking this question is to point out that bras are to women what support is to business success. The difference is that we don’t doubt the use of a bra; we always wear one.  We do doubt the need for business support. My argument is that they aren’t very different and yet we don’t question the use of a bra but do question the need to get support in our businesses.

    Let me explain. Bras accentuate what we have and help us look our best. They literally support our breasts and our ability to do whatever we want in comfort. They serve us by keeping our breasts from getting out of shape or um saggy and they are a way we can pamper ourselves. They make us feel great.

    I often write about ways to create success in your business but you can’t add in a bunch of pleasurable strategies without recognizing how you could potentially be sabotaging the good that you are creating.

    We are the product of our thoughts and our thoughts can hinder our ability to do all that we are capable of. Unfortunately we are our own worst critics. We are fast to look for what did not work, what we could have done better or what we don’t like about ourselves. We think that focusing only on the good feels “not real”. The negative version feels more “real”. Even though it’s not.     Do you feel sexy and beautiful? Do you feel comfortable in your own skin? Loving yourself and feeling sexy is a core precursor to getting the most juice out of your pleasurable activities. Think about it. If you love working out but beat yourself up while doing it, you are negating the positive effects it is having on your physiology.     Why Marketing is like Dating

    I am in the process of thinking about my marketing strategies for the New Year and I am reminded of how much I love marketing. For me it’s a creative exercise that allows me to connect with potential clients. I love working with clients and I see each of them as an opportunity for growth, learning and insight. So marketing to them is like creating the warmest greeting card that I can come up with that they will read and feel connected to the message. It got me thinking about personal connection in marketing.

    What is the point of Marketing? Sometimes we lose sight of the fact that Marketing is just about connecting.  It’s really no different than dating and spending time with all the “getting to know you” questions in an effort to see if there is mutual interest in continuing the relationship. Both parties need to feel that it’s worthwhile.
