My Bio:
In 2010, after having spent 7 ½ years as a financial advisor, her passion for sewing and designing was encouraged by her sister, Carolyn West, who asked her to participate with her at the Westfield Farmer’s Market. From then until now, she has found a deep joy she could no longer deny, resigned from her position as an advisor, and has launched BlueEyes & BareFeet Designs full time as of February 2011. This leap of faith is backed by her enthusiasm, strong vision and experience of demand in the market for unique, quality, handmade children’s clothes. Stephanie believes strongly in originality and strives to continue to create pieces that are not only functionally practical but that bring out the bold individuality and contagious spirit of children. As of now, she is the sole designer, operator, semstress, promoter, janitor, and anything else in between.... :)
BlueEyes and BareFeet is a clothing and design company featuring a collection for children created from vintage, vintage-inspired, modern and recycled fabrics. Each piece is handmade and ultimately inspired by my children - two daughters, Abigail and Elise and my son, Isaac. You will see them in many of my pictures as they are my regular 'models' and everyday users of my designs.
What makes BlueEyes and BareFeet unique is the fact that a large majority of our designs are made from reused and or salvaged fabrics. What that means is that I use leftover fabrics or I reuse current fabrics intended for something else but no longer wanted. For example, I may use vintage white linens, a men's dress shirt or even a jersey t-shirt no one wants anymore. I gather my fabrics through donations, thrift stores and even my grandmother's basement where I have found the most AMAZING vintage fabrics. She and her girls made the majority of their clothes and I get to have what was left of good intentions and never made and their old clothes that I get to bring back to life as either detail on a dress or as the dress itself. Many of the designs come adorned with cute appliques and hand-stamped with inspiring words We believe in originality in all of our creations, therefore no piece will ever be exactly like the one before.
